I have walked away from my publishing company.
There is such a huge stigma about self-publishing that the decision of taking my work out of the hands of a reputable publisher and reclaiming it, was a huge one. But I did it. And while I am grateful to the publishers for choosing to publish my book from a sea of choices, I was unwilling to sign over the rights and some of the major creative choices. It's a little scary being out here on my own, but I am pleased with my decision. Since I am not an established author, I wasn't getting any perks anyway. No up front cash (unless I wanted a limited print run), no great publicity campaign, no signing tours. Nope, if I wanted any of that I have to get out and do it myself and still give them the lion's share. But now, I get to keep the rights of MY words, I'll end up making a tiny bit more money per book sale and I'm doing the same amount of work so over-all, it averages out. Luckily, the publishers and I did most everything before I bailed out of the contract. The editing, the marketing plans, the layout... so all I had to was find a printing company. Captive Heart will be a self- published book. I worked extra hard to finish everything within the original deadlines. I'm still working just as hard as if the publisher was hovering over me. It's still being published, I am still the writer of the entire thing. I just didn't trust someone else with my first born. I thank you for your continued support as my job just got a little bit harder!
