When I was seven I almost died. I was playing at the backyard of my house in South Africa, and then I heard my grandfather tell me to stand still. Now, I had always listened to that wise man. I stood still for what seemed forever, but I learned later that it was only for a few minutes.

In any case, I waited for his permission to move. When I turned around, I saw my grandfather holding a shovel and on it was the severed head of a snake.

That was my introduction to the importance of communication.

Jump ahead years later and I am studying in America. Now, as they say, is the rest of the story.
I am a business and creative writer with an M.A. in Mass Communication from Iona College, New Rochelle, NY. I hold a B.A. in writing from Hamilton College, Clinton, NY. I had lots of fun writing a detective thriller, "The Night is My Dominion". It features Derek Tawarrior, "the warrior detective" first introduced in a series of short stories. I am now working on the follow up to "Dominion", and the book is titled "Justice Has No Master".

Meet Children's Author- Najla Ahmad

"I am so excited to be able to share Asha Loves Science with you and your family. The idea first came to me when I was looking for DVDs for my own daughter. She loves learning Spanish and Chinese from the cartoons she sees on TV. However, she didn't have a character to relate to that taught her words and concepts from her own culture. This also meant that she would grow up without a simple way to share her culture with her peers.
I also wanted to impart my love for science to my daughter. Always curious and willing to learn, my daughter is building foundations that will help her understand complex scientific concepts in the future. I think it is never too early to be curious about or in love with science!
Having a mathematician for a mother, I have always had a strong role model that encouraged me to explore my love for math and science. As a child, I never even realized that there were disproportionately fewer women in these fields. Asha is an enthusiastic, lovable, and positive role model for girls. I don't want any child to have an association between gender and science. Learning is a gender neutral activity!"
Najla Ahmad has recently completed her PhD in Computer Science at the University of Kansas. She has a M.S. in Computer Systems Engineering from Northeastern University and a B.A. in Computer Science with a minor in Psychology from Wellesley College. She has been working with various forms of art, such as cartooning, ceramics, and animation, for as long as she can remember.
Najla is working on the characters, concepts, script writing, and animation for Asha Loves Science.

Meet Author-Aida Zaciragic

The journey from being a school teacher to an award winning author for Aida Zaciragic jumpstarted when her growing interest in children’s fairy tales provoked her creativity to yield a pen herself. Finding interest in different realms of life revolving around her past, present and future, Aida's fairy tales display her love for the genre.

Aida is now the proud author of four children's books and draws inspiration from strong female characters and enjoys putting a spin on stories that have come from her own childhood.  Growing up in Bosnia, a land rich in history, kings and queens, lore and fantasy, her childhood was ripe with ingredients to create brilliant stories to feed children's imaginations all over the world.
"I grew up in a beautiful, historical town which was the last living place for Bosnian kings and their kingdoms. And when I was little it provided my childlike fantasy; much later, I started writing about that."

“The Kingdom of White Lilies” which revolves around the life of last Bosnian qeen, Katarina Kosača and her children. The fairy tale is considered to be one of the most beautiful assets of Bosnian literature.  A  second part, called “The Law of Freedom” won her an award at the Sarajevo Book Fair in 2014.

Critics describe her style of writing as “beautiful” and often compare her novels with that H.C. Andersen's due to their frequent references to the forgotten legends in her fairy tales.

Residing and teaching in Sweden she has just released her latest book, Malalas Mission for the World. A touching and bittersweet story of a girl and her battle with the Taliban.

Kings and queens, witches and warriors,
Renegades, mystics, adventurers, wise men and fools
All play their part in
‘A DANCE CALLED AFRICA’

When the ancient powers of Africa meet the thrusting forces of change, what will be the outcome?

1798. Zululand

Threatened by a group of thugs, a 10-year old boy appeals to his ancestors for help. The response is immediate - and terrifying. Later, after publicly defying the powerful father who forced his family into exile - again the heavens respond.

Coincidence, natural phenomena…or something else?

One person, however, shows no fear- either of the storm or its apparent instigator. Langani, the four-year old who likes to dance, meets the rebellious youth, Shaka ka Senzangakhona.

During the trial of a notorious witch, they meet again. Shaka is now a powerful warrior king and creator of the Zulu kingdom, while Langani is of high intellect, a mystical prophet and a man of peace.

The diviner is haunted by dreams of the white men scheming to enter the Kingdom in search of its ivory.

Henry Francis Fynn: hunter and intrepid explorer, is also known as ‘the man who can raise the dead.’

James King and Francis Farewell, ex-naval officers. whose bitter rivalry will threaten to bring destruction on those around them.

Jakot Msimbithi: the handsome Xhosa with the ‘magical  eye’ and the luck of the devil. Cattle rustler, spy, and freedom fighter - even Robben Island cannot hold him.

But there is something else Langani cannot explain – his electrifying visions of the blue-eyed, red-haired boy who is also destined to play a part in the dangerous game about to unfold in Zululand.

Who is he?
And just what is his powerful connection to King Shaka?
