Omigosh!!!! We only have three days left!!! But there is so much more that I want to do!!!
Today, it was time to do something fun! When people think of being kind, most think of things they could buy for someone. Gifts are a nice, quick, easy, kindness gesture. So today, I decided to take on the popular "pay it forward" form of kindness.
I'm so bummed I didn't do this sooner!! It was SO fun!! Granted, I have done it a little here and a little there, but wait till you hear about today's adventure! You just might want to do it too!
So, I went into a small "breakfast-type" restaurant this morning and I bought a gift card for $50 and a hot chai tea latte for myself. I instructed the cashier to pay for everyone's ticket as far as she could from that $50 gift card and she was not allowed to tell anyone who was taking care of the tab. I found a spot where I could watch the action and relaxed with my latte.
I had so much fun!! Twenty-two people were able to get a free breakfast with the final person only having to pay $1.12 for their order.
The looks on people's faces!! I could barely keep from giggling out loud! Some would look around to see if they were on camera, others went ahead and paid for the person behind them, many were confused and were really unsure how to accept the gift.
I only got caught by one person, a woman and she sent over a cinnamon roll to my table to enjoy with my latte. Oh, my goodness! I can't remember having more fun on $50 in a long time! I would love to do it again! Maybe I can find someone to do it with me and we can double our investment!!
Give it shot. It can be any denomination at what I would assume any location, but it feels good. I wish I did have a cme
Taking Kindness for Granted.
The whole point of this Kindness Challenge is to bring to light the thoughts and actions of being kind to others; having it be something you do automatically without being prompted or thinking, "What's in it for me." And a lot of the times where kindness is taken for granted is right under our noses... in our own home.
Sure, your home is your castle and you look forward to get into the secure confines of the draw bridge and just relax and be comfortable. And it is easy to unleash the trouble of the day on those we love most, knowing that they are going to love us anyway. But even those who love you unconditionally, need to be loved and respected in return.
Something as simple as coming in the door and dropping your book bag, lunch bag, shoes... or whatever on the floor or couch instead of putting it where it belongs. You are assuming that someone else is going to come along behind you and take care of.
Say you had a bad day at work and you come home and snap at your wife or children. You don't mean anything by it, but you never apologize and you continue on with your foul attitude for the rest of the evening. Your family members did nothing to contribute to your bad day... and yet, they are feeling the brunt of it.
Remember how we talked about simple acts of kindness being nothing more than kind words or small actions? They don't always need to take place outside the home. In fact, they should start in side the walls of your castle. Tell your wife that she looks nice. Tell your husband things you appreciate about him. Help your mom fix dinner- without being threatened or conditioned. Help your sibling pick up her toys. Leave notes, bring home gifts, do a little extra. The payoff is... amazing. You will become closer and your bonds will be tighter and the household will be happier.
Leave the negative things that happened in your day outside the front door and walk through that door with an attitude of love and gratitude.
What kind things have you done for your family today? What things can you do in the future? How can you show more love to the people you live with? Please share your comments below.
Compassion. Sometimes that's all kindness is. Maybe it's taking that little extra time explaining features to a new customer. Maybe it's holding a hand and being quiet while she cries. Maybe it's walking slowly behind a senior citizen not in any rush to get to where you're going.
Thinking of others first. Seeing that another person has value. Letting another person, be exactly who they were meant to be, with your support, patience or encouragement.
Compassion. Another way to show kindness without spending a dime. Put yourself in someone else's shoes and act accordingly.
Welcome to Day Two of the 30 Day Kindness Challenge! Our first day got off to a pretty slow start but hopefully that will pick up.
I have to tell you that I was interviewed by David Breth a journalist for CNN and his article has gotten quite a bit of attention! I am hopeful that it will help get the word out and we can spread some kindness all over the world. Who doesn't need a little more love in their life?
Today's challenge: Give a random person a compliment. No need to make it creepy, but watch their eyes light up at your praise.
P.S. Check out the article on CNN!! (Still waiting to be vetted, but exciting all the same!)
Leave your posts in the comments below! Let us know what you're out doing to show kindness to others!
Welcome to the first day of the 30 Day Kindness Challenge!! I am so excited that this is happening!
I have to tell you, that when I first came up with this idea, and then decided to run with it, I had no idea how much attention it would receive but I am happy to say that it is being warmly embraced and getting world-side acclaim! I have gotten feedback from France, England and India as well as a lot of love from good ole USA!!!
So thanks for stepping up!! If you haven't yet, take a second to write your commitment statement below in the comment area! It's going to be fun!!
So let's get started!!! I made it easy for you on this first day, inadvertently, mind you, but it works in your favor. It's Father's Day!! What a great way to start your Kindness Challenge! Send some love to your own Dad, and then to other dad's you may know that would appreciate the acknowledgement!!
I've had a request to present an individual challenge for each day for those who might have trouble coming up with ideas, so, for those of you who would like a little twist in your challenge I'll do my best to come up with a universal "assignment"! But please feel free to do your own thing and then share it with the rest of us in each day's comment section below!!
Todays Assignment Suggestion: Give all the Dad's you know some Father's Day greetings!!
