The journey from being a school teacher to an award winning author for Aida Zaciragic jumpstarted when her growing interest in children’s fairy tales provoked her creativity to yield a pen herself. Finding interest in different realms of life revolving around her past, present and future, Aida's fairy tales display her love for the genre.
Aida is now the proud author of four children's books and draws inspiration from strong female characters and enjoys putting a spin on stories that have come from her own childhood. Growing up in Bosnia, a land rich in history, kings and queens, lore and fantasy, her childhood was ripe with ingredients to create brilliant stories to feed children's imaginations all over the world.
"I grew up in a beautiful, historical town which was the last living place for Bosnian kings and their kingdoms. And when I was little it provided my childlike fantasy; much later, I started writing about that."
“The Kingdom of White Lilies” which revolves around the life of last Bosnian qeen, Katarina Kosača and her children. The fairy tale is considered to be one of the most beautiful assets of Bosnian literature. A second part, called “The Law of Freedom” won her an award at the Sarajevo Book Fair in 2014.
Critics describe her style of writing as “beautiful” and often compare her novels with that H.C. Andersen's due to their frequent references to the forgotten legends in her fairy tales.
Residing and teaching in Sweden she has just released her latest book, Malalas Mission for the World. A touching and bittersweet story of a girl and her battle with the Taliban.
