By Sandra Gould Thompson Suicide is something no one wants to talk about. The act conjures up everything that we fear. It requires that we examine our lives and try to determine where we went wrong. It paralyzes us such that we are unable to console another in the state of their indescribable agony and need for rest. My purpose in writing this book is to facilitate that conversation. I describe what I experienced and believe happens once departed from our bodies of our own volition, and it’s not what you or they expect. My greatest wish is that you read this or give it to someone you know who is suffering. This is no time to be gentle and loving; that time has passed. Now you need to act. Now you need to ask important questions that will ground them, and offer an unexpected and more helpful point of view. This book is available for purchase on Amazon. Click here for more details. Over a decade ago I was living in a tiny village, high in the mountains of Austria, almost within touching distance of the Italian border. It may have been remote, but my first of many seasons as a travel rep for an English holiday firm was pretty busy. Reading was my main source of evening entertainment and the small tourist information centre had a couple of bookshelves that allowed people to freely take and leave novels. I spent a lot of time poring over those shelves and reading anything I could get my hands on. While I'd always been a fan of adventure and fantasy, in those five months I explored more genres than in all of the years beforehand. Here I discovered my passion for thrillers, reading Robert Ludlum and Len Deighton to begin with. I later expanded into mysteries and crime. It's hard not to feel inspired as Agatha Christie's former home is an hour's drive from me in the south west of the UK. Since my return to England I’ve worked in the newspaper industry and published many non fiction features in print and online, but at home my notebook overflowed with story ideas, some of which I started and never finished. With self publishing becoming more accessible I decided to write novellas, which are shorter than full length novels but not without their own challenges of balancing characters and plot within a certain amount of words. It was time to find out if I could write in my favourite genre and so the character of Natasha Green was born. She's a gardener with keen skills of observation which make her an ideal amateur sleuth for my cozy mystery whodunnits. As a fan of Neil Gaiman, magical worlds overlapping into our modern day society has always fascinated me, so there's a supernatural flavour to my story's setting. My first book, Murder in the Bougainvillea, was published in August and I love writing these stories and layering in clues and plot twists. Readers seem to enjoy them too, so for at the least the next year I’ll be writing more in the series. After that it will be onto my next novel idea!
